WHAT OUR PATIENTS SAY

The word of mouth

In January, 2016, I weighed an all-time high of 330 pounds. As you can imagine, my health was very poor. It was then that I met Dr. Rafael Moguel at CMC in Cozumel, Mexico. He informed me that my heart had an ejection fracture below 30 – VERY bad! As a result, I had to have a pacemaker/defibrillator implanted. I was scared to death, but Dr. Moguel had a very calming way, and he listened to and worked WITH me. I will forever be grateful for that.
I have never trusted physicians in the past. However, I cannot say enough about Rafa’s genuine, caring, and
compassionate care for each and every patient. I have and will continue to trust him with my life, and will recommend him 100% to anyone who asks.
Since that fateful day over 2 years ago, I have lost 130 pounds, and my health has greatly improved. In fact, my heart has recovered dramatically. It has been so dramatic that in October 2017, Rafa removed my device! I was extremely anxious during the procedure as it was done under local anesthetic. Again, he was very patient with me, and the procedure went smoothly. I only had to stay a couple of hours, then went home. I proudly now work with this amazing cardiologist and have absolute faith in him and his skills. Should you ever require any of the procedures he provides, I would encourage you to contact him without hesitation! I am forever grateful to Rafa
for his professional care and for his friendship!

While in Manila last June While in Manila last June 2017, I went through an angioplasty procedure (following a heart attack), wherein 2 stents had to be placed. It was exactly a day after I arrived from Florida where I worked as a head baker in Disney Cruises. (Thank God it didn’t happen a day before while I was on board the plane). It took me 10 days in the hospital to recover. Although my condition was a bit complicated, I was allowed to go back to work after a few months. At work, I felt better until 2 months after (around Dec 2017) when suddenly I had a flu and sore throat. Had myself checked and along with it, the doctor found out my heart rate was beating faster than normal. So the doctor had to send me to a hospital in Cozumel, where I met Doctor Rafael Moguel, the attending physician. Doctor Moguel so I heard, is one of the best cardio doctor in Mexico. Since I was away from my family in Manila, it made me felt somehow that I’ll be safe under his care. Aside from the unceasing prayers, I knew he was God sent. During my confinement at the hospital, Doctor Moguel had to monitor my heart beat. After a few days, that’s when they discovered that I had to go through another angioplasty procedure, needing two more stents..again. I was kinda in-distress when they broke the news, not only that I was alone, but it was during the Christmas season that I had to go through all these. It was heartbreaking, but they had to do it, nevertheless. To my surprise Doctor Moguel inserted the stents in an hour with me fully awake. I was able to recover fast with the help of the nurses at the hospital. But that was not it. Doctor Moguel concluded that a PACEMAKER would be best for my condition. Although hesitant, I had no choice. Another operation that last for an hour with Doctor Moguel. Am fully awake and praying that everything will be fine. Now I’m back in the Philippines, feeling better. Recovering from my last operation. Truly, Doctor Moguel, is one of the best. He was very nice and I am so grateful. He even had a video call with my mom when I was in Mexico to appease her and tell her that everything’s going to be fine. Thank you too to the staff who took good care of me. Sending out my prayers to everyone.. I wish you all the best!

Dear Dr. Moguel
On Monday 4/23/2018,  while having brunch with my wife Shannon Noah & a good friend, I began to experience strange feelings and discomfort in my chest and arms.  I went pale and had a cold sweat.  My wife & friend urged me to go to a hospital.  I was taken to Costamed where I entered through emergency and was taken to a room where I was first introduced to you.  You confidently assumed control of my treatment and after some lab work and evaluation,  which initially indicated that I was not having a heart attack ( and which at this point most doctors would have sent the patient home. )  As you were not quite convinced  of this.  You recommended a CTScan and an overnight stay for observation as you thought it dangerous for me to walk around in this condition.  The CT Scan showed  major blockage in the left Marginal Obtuse artery  and you  wasted no time in determining a heart catheterization with a possible stint placement was necessary to remove the blockage and restore necessary blood flow.
After completion of the stint placement you then continued with your more complete holistic treatment. Educating me on a condition know as Metabolic Syndrome. You recommended dietary changes and adjusted my medications to help ensure a long term improvement of my cardiovascular health.
Dr. Moguel , my wife Shannon and I want you to know that we fully believe your expertise, attention to detail, and general concern for my well being turned this unfortunate situation into a positive future for us.
It is my  belief  that if this situation had occurred in the United States  with the philosophy of U S. doctors to prescribe medications  to treat  symptoms rather than a more holistic approach to treating  the core problem, the blockage would have gone undetected thus untreated placing me in grave danger to futher cardiac episodes.
We are eternally grateful to you and the staff at Costamed Hospital for the treatment that we were given.
We would highly recommend you Dr. Moguel to our family and friends if ever a need would arise for your services.  You are a great doctor.
Thank you again.
